How to Draw Fries Step by Step
This tutorial shows how to draw a box french fries in six steps. It detailed but simple line drawing, coloring and shading examples.
Both the fries and the container in this example (see preview above) will have a fairly common and simple shapes. While it may take a bit of time to draw out the individual fries sticks overall the tutorial should not be too difficult.
Start the tutorial in pencil and make light lines that are easy to erase in case you make a mistake. You can darken them later on with a black pen or marker.
Step 1 – Draw the Outline of the Fries Box
Begin the drawing of the fries by first outlining the shape of it’s box. You can do this as shown in the above example. Draw the box narrower towards the bottom and wider as it goes up. Give it an upwards curve at the bottom and a downwards curve at the top. Also be sure to position it in such a way as to leave enough room for the fries that will be sticking out of it.
Step 2 – Draw the Box Corners
For this simple step show the edges of the box. Draw them going from each side of the top curve to the corresponding side of the bottom one.
Step 3 – Draw the Outlines of the Fries
For this step draw the fries sticking out of the box. While it may take a bit of time to draw each individual stick it should not be too difficult as you don’t have to be overly precise with their outlines.
Start with the fries in the front and then draw the ones behind them until you have a nice and filled box/container similar to the example. To make their overall shape look nice try and draw the fries in a way where they slightly fan out as they go up.
Step 4 – Draw the Edges of the Fries & Finish the Line Drawing
To make the fries look a little less flat draw some lines to show their edges similar to the example.
Once done you can trace over your drawing with a black pen, marker or darken your lines with the pencil. Just be sure that you are happy with your drawing (thus far) before doing so. Otherwise you may have to start over.
Step 5 – Add Color
To color the fries make it a yellow/brown and the container red. You can of course use a different color for the container but red is fairly common. You can also use pretty much any medium you like (or a mix of several) such as paints, colored pencils, markers, etc…
Step 6 – Add Shading
To once again make the drawing look a little less flat and more interesting you can give it some very basic shading. Darken the red on the sides of the box and darken a few of the fries sticks. Generally you will want to darken ones in the background.
Once you add the shading you should be done with fries drawing.
Conclusion
The box as well as the fries in this tutorial have fairly generic shapes that are quite common for such food. While the drawing has a good amount of detail overall it’s still fairly simple and will hopefully not be too difficult even if you are beginner.
