How to Draw a Cookie Step by Step

This tutorial shows how to draw a chocolate chip cookie in four steps. It’s short, simple and can be good for beginners that want to try something easy.

In this example it will be a homemade style cookie. You can see a preview of the drawing steps for it in the image above.

Start the drawing in pencil and make light lines so that you can easily erase any potential mistakes. You can darken them in step three before coloring.

Step 1 – Draw an Outline of the Cookie

Start by drawing the outer shape of the cookie. Though the cookie is fairly round when viewed on an angle like this one it will appear to be more of an oval. Keep this in mind and try and draw yours similar to the example.

You can also deliberately make the outline wobbly as these types of cookies often have a slightly uneven shape.

Step 2 – Draw The Chocolate Chips

Inside the cookie’s outline draw the chocolate chips. To make these look more realistic draw them at different angles with some only partially sticking out of the cookie.

You can look at the provided examples for some of the different ways to draw them.

Step 3 – Draw the the Cracks

Finally add some wrinkles/cracks that tend form in the dough as the cookie is backing. Try an draw these in a way where thy curve along the cookie’s outline.

Once done with the above go over your drawing with a think black marker or a black pen. If you prefer you can also just darken your lines with the pencil.

Step 4 – Color the Cookie

To color the cookie you can use whatever you have handy (paints, markers, colored pencils or some combination of these).

When coloring the chocolate chips leave a tiny white area for the highlight (light reflecting from them) to show that the chips are melted and shiny. To not make the highlights seem to bright you can then color them with a much lighter brown. Again, depending on what you have available you can for examples use a marker for the darker parts of the chocolate chips and a brown pencil for the highlights.

Color the cookie itself a yellow/orange/brown. This is probably easiest to do with either mixing some water based paints. Alternatively you can also go over it with a few layers of colored pencils to get a similar color.

Conclusion

This is a very short and simple tutorial as there really isn’t that much to drawing a cookie like this one. Hopefully you’ve found it helpful.
